RIVERS STATE – The State High Court sitting in Port-Harcourt today tried the suspected serial killer, Gracious David West who pleaded guilty to nine count charges bothering on murder and rape of sixteen women in Rivers, Imo and Akwa Ibom states on different occasions.
Note that ten out of the sixteen sad incidents happened in Rivers State at intervals as follows; June 30, July 14, Sept 5, Sept 6, Sept 9, Sept 12, Sept 13, Sept 18 (twice), one of which he pleaded not guilty and Sept 27 at different hotels.
David West in his plea to the judge said, “I’m begging the court to forgive me for the crime.”
Meanwhile, the Rivers State government insisted that they want him to answer for the crime he committed on the state’s soil.
Thus, the State High Court granted Rivers state prosecution department the right to prosecute the suspected serial killer.
In the meantime, the state prosecution counsel, Chidi Ekeh while speaking said, “the state government want to prosecute the case to its logical conclusion.”
The counsel to the police, Gladys Imegu in her statement to the court said, “the Nigerian Police Force will comply with the decision of the court”.
Vincent Chuku, the counsel to the suspected serial killer maintained that his client is still innocent of some of the charges and maintained he is going to defend him during the trial.
The prosecution department also applied to commence the trial of Gracious David West as follows: Nov. 18, 21, 27, 29 and Dec. 4th.
The presiding judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli adjourned the matter for Nov. 18 for commencement of trial.
