Scores burnt to death and cars destroyed in Lagos tanker explosion.
More than 50 vehicles have been destroyed and hundreds of commuters burnt to death in an inferno caused by petrol tanker explosion this evening along Otedola Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to a spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Commission, Bisi Kazeem, the fire outbreak was caused by brake failure of a tanker loaded with petroleum product, which somersaulted and blew up. The fire gutted other cars along the road and eye witness accounts has it that the tanker, five buses, two trucks, a tricycle and 45 cars were razed in the inferno.

Mr Adesina Tamiyu, who is the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) spokesman, said that a distress call was received by their office around 16:33 GMT.
