RIVERS STATE – Teka Sogho Community in Nyokhana Axis of Khana Local Government Area (OGONI) here suffered fresh attack in the early hours last Sunday.
The paramount ruler of Teka Sogho, His Royal Highness, Mene Frank Nule Nam (JP) said, it all started when some heavily armed security personnel stormed the community, in search of a notorious cultist known as Abobby Barineka Ndii.
According to him, it was alleged that Abobby suspected to be part of the last Saturday gang robbery attack on commuters along the popular Port Harcourt – Uyo East-West Road.
“The alleged culprit escaped arrest and the security personnel resorted to burning down his home and that of his accomplices. However, the said cultist later invaded the community with his gang after the departure of the security, and burnt down three houses, destroying properties worth millions of Naira.”
“Allegedly, Abobby sighted the reasons that informed his dastard actions as being a reprisal attack on members of the Council of Chiefs whom he felt has aided the security in search of him. He fled the community after his retaliatory attacks,” he said.
He added, he has submitted all the details about Abobby to the police and before this time too the police has gathered enough about him.
“It was as a result of what the police has gathered about him that lead to the burning of his house. So I want to assure you and the public that the case of Abobby is not something we should worry about,” he affirmed.
Some of the victims who spoke to our correspondent, claimed complete ignorance of the heavy security presence on the day of the mayhem.
However, they promised to remain calm and law-abiding and anticipate proper investigation that will unravel the root cause of this huge damage and the culprit brought to justice.
They also called on the Government to swiftly intervene in the matter as they have been rendered homeless.
Chief Mene in his final words of consolation assured the victims of reaching out to the appropriate authority on how to cushion the effect of their present predicaments and seek justice for them.
He also called for a strong synergy between the community youths and security personnel for peace and harmony in the community.
“Security is everyone’s business and therefore all suspected cultists and illegal activities should be reported to security agents immediately.”
“So I want to let everybody understand that there is no way they will call me or the securities and they will not answer. If you call now in the next twenty or thirty minutes they will arrive,” he assured.
