In a latest tweet by the lawyer of the former Catalan leader, the German police has detained Carles Puigdemont. This is even after he has foiled attempts by the Finnish Police to arrest him last Saturday.

Mr. Carles Puigdemont has been living in Brussels in a self-imposed exile since October 2017 after Spain failed to honour the referendum conducted for Catalonia’s secession.

There has been growing tensions in Catalonia, as the separatist groups abandoned their preparations and plans to name a new president. Recall that an international arrest warrant has been placed on Puigdemont and six other ex-Catalan leaders by Spanish PM, Mariano Rajoy for their roles in last year’s referendum that took place in the northeastern region of Spain.

This breaking news circulated through social media and from the latest tweet by Puigdemont’s lawyer, Jaume Alonso Cuevillas.
