RIVERS STATE – The anticipated peace and rehabilitation process came to realization at the Divisional Police Station field in Bori, the traditional headquarter of Khana Local Government Area.
The smooth process was made effective through the efforts of Gbene Barrister Joy Yimebe Nunieh, the representative of Rivers State in the recently federal government constituted Niger Delta Development Commission Board, Hon. Lateh Loolo, Khana LGA chairman, the Bori police division and other stakeholders.
You will recall that few months back, Ogoni appeared in several media headlines on mayhem and killings as a result of clash of supremacy by rival cult groups.
The various gang leaders led thousands of their followers to submit their arms and embraced amnesty amidst a large crowd that gathered.
The “Esther of Ogoni”, Gbene Barr. Joy, expressed delight in turn up and timely decision by the youths to ensure peace in Ogoniland.
She also appealed to victims of previous cult clashes and the bereaved to forgive and forget the past.
“There is nothing as good as peace and freedom, let’s all embrace permanent peace so that development can thrive in our land,” she said.
The foremost Ogoni female legal luminary commended the efforts of the security operatives and charged them to ensure smooth operations.
She further assured the public of total returns of the long awaited calmness and peace.
“Every indigene and visitor residing here can now go about their normal genuine businesses without fear of being harassed,”she assured.
The various former gang members thanked the conveyors and the government for the kind gesture.
“We appeal for total rehabilitation into the society so that we enjoy peace like every other Nigerians,” said one of the former gang leaders.
Some of the stakeholders who expressed their views also called on the government and private investors to come and invest in Ogoniland as peace has ensured.
